Our main goal has been to preserve the cultural heritage of the farm. The tourist activities have arisen as a result of wanting to preserve a group of historic buildings.
We have received an award for good architectural design from the municipality of Vikna.
When the pier is done, it will have 2 apartments as well as a place allocated for cleaning fish. Will be ready for booking during Spring 09.
Traditional farming is also carried out on the farm, producing milk, beef and barley. The farm has a milking quota of 146.000 kilo. We have about 500 000 square meters of cultivated land, with around 200 000 being used for corn. We also own around 2 million square meters of uncultivated land, with large numbers of roe deer. A large amount of the uncultivated land consists of the islets and rocks surrounding the islands.
The owners and managers are Kristin Darell and Frode Willy Hansen.
Løvøen Gård and all its buildings were constructed around 1850.
At the time, the farm was a busy trading post on the coast. Apart from traditional farming there was also a fish terminal, a grocer, a tin factory and a bakery. The last of these to be closed down was the grocer, in 1986.
In 1990 the restoration of the main building at the farm began, and the tourist activitities got off the ground. Prior to this, the buildings had been falling into disrepair for some time.
We are now in the middle of renovating the last house on the farm.
